
Obituary: R.K. Rajendra Deo Singh of Poonch
It is with deep sadness that we announce the demise of R.K. Rajendra Deo Singh Ji of Poonch on August 27, 2024. Mr. Singh was a dedicated educator and a respected member of the Mayo College community, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and service.
Mr. Singh joined the Mayo College General Council (MCGC) as a Life Member on November 29, 1991. He served as the Principal of Mayo College from 1993 to 1996, during which time he made significant contributions to the institution's growth and development. His leadership and vision were greatly appreciated by both staff and students. Mr. Singh will be remembered for generations for reviving horse riding at Mayo College.
After his tenure as Principal, Mr. Singh continued to serve Mayo College in various capacities. He was elected to the Board of Governors (BoG) on July 21, 2007, and served until May 10, 2008. He then became the Chairman of Collaboration Committee from May 11, 2008, to March 16, 2013, and again from March 17, 2013, to March 15, 2018. His tenure as Chairman was marked by his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of education and governance.
On March 16, 2018, Mr. Singh was re-elected to the Board of Governors and also served as a Member of the Mayo College Committee (MCC) until November 11, 2021. He then took on the role of Officiating Chairman of the Mayoor School Committee (MSC) from November 12, 2021, to March 14, 2023. His last position with the Mayo College community was as a member of the MCGC from March 15, 2023, until his passing on August 27, 2024.
Before his illustrious career at Mayo College, Mr. Singh was a respected teacher and Housemaster of Hyderabad House at The Doon School, where he was known for his dedication to his students and his commitment to education.
Mr. Singh was a student of Mayo College from 1941 to 1951. During his time at the school, he served as the Head Boy, received the President's Gold Medal in 1950, and was the Lawn Tennis Captain for the year 1950-51.
Mr. R D Singh contributions to education have left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of working with him or learning from him. His passion for teaching, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of his students will be remembered by all who knew him.
He also served as Principal YPS Mohali and DPS Mathura Road.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many students whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in peace
The cremation time and venue is 2.00PM at Purani Chungi crematorium. Procession will start from home at 1.30PM .
